Cherry Picking

This is another backdated post from when the cousins were here. A dear friend of Mehran's invited the family to accompany him to an acquaintance's orchard (if that is the word for hundreds of acres of fruit trees spreading across a valley as far as the eye can see) to pick cherries before the season finished.

After a leisurely drive along old country roads dotted with ancient gums and bordered by countless farms we arrived at our destination and followed the meandering path into the hills thick with trees straining under the weight of their fruit.

Initially everyone got right to the business at hand: picking and eating cherries straight off the trees.

Ruhi found 'the mother load'.
She also found a new use for the cherries.

Anisa ultimately decides that it's easier to eat from the box than from the tree.
Bayan tries to maneuver through the vast expanse of netting that is draped over each row of trees, a ghost-like shroud meant to keep the birds away.
It's more challenging than it first appears. He is clearly not impressed. "What is with all the nets???" While the adults continued filling buckets and boxes with the succulent fruits the children found other ways to amuse themselves: wishes were made,
games were played,

adventures were taken,
fun was had by all.
