What if...?

Last year Maryam and I boarded a plane in Vancouver shortly before dusk on the 9th of July. We flew into the sunset, a sunset that seemed to last for hours, and when the sky turned light again and we finally landed it was the 11th of July in Australia. The 10th did not exist. We had quite literally flown right past it.
This year as we commemorated the Martyrdom of The Bab I couldn't help but wonder what if that day, so long ago, didn't happen? What if The Bab had not been executed? What if the Shah had accepted the Faith? What if the leaders had believed? What if the people had listened? What if? What if humanity had chosen love? Had chosen peace? Had chosen light? What if those terrible events at the barracks in Tabriz had never taken place? What if..?
The Bab gave His life and nearly 200 years later the world slumbers on. Today, as we remembered those events and the murmur of prayer was mingled with the distant echo of gunshots, I couldn't help but wonder...What if...? What if...? What if...?
