T'was the night before school...

and all through the house...
plans were being by hatched by three kids and a mouse.
In a final farewell to a holiday just gone
they planned to have dinner out near the lawn.
In the moonlight our Mexican feast lay spread
while that one little mouse snuggled down in his bed-
safe from the cat who was prowling around,
sniffing at the salsa and quiche that he found.
Two happy daughters were eating their fill
while one little guy got his dinner to spill.
Enter the cat who loves food to fall
and who was more than happy to eat it all.
As the stars came out and the night grew dark
Daddy grabbed some marshmallows and lighted a spark
soon all were toasting their treats by the fire
while far above them the moon rose higher.
Then mummy spoiled all the fun when she said:
"My Little darlings it's time for bed."
With reluctant feet they trailed inside
and said goodnight with arms open wide.
With marshmallowy smiles they were tucked into bed
and as sleep slowly claimed them stories were read.
What tomorrow will bring only tomorrow will tell
So sweet dreams little ones... all is well...

Hmmm. Upon rereading I find this very lame and sappy...I may have to delete this this post.

Don't you dare delete it!! I love it. And it reminds me of the Christmas cards that Cher makes every year with a wood block print reproduced on her own printing press and a poem she wrote to go with the theme for the year.
